“In basketball there are a lot of people who come from environments in which kids think gangs, drugs, bad language are normal, and this is how their life will end up. I want to help them see through my example. I didn’t have a great upbringing. Not everybody was my friend. I wasn’t a star basketball player. But that’s OK. “ - Coach Frank Galey

Galey started 1 Vision Academy to help his son during the pandemic. Like many kids, Elias Jordan Galey was coping with some mental health challenges during the lockdown, and the basketball program helped get him back on track. Elias also helped Galey become the best father he could be. You don’t have to be great at basketball to enjoy the benefits of being on a team. Hard work at practice and during games, as well as enduring losses, build a person’s resilience, which can be the engine for focus and drive in achieving one’s goals throughout life. Basketball is a gateway to communication and trusted relationships. 1 Vision Academy fulfills Galey’s dream to provide an avenue to support youngsters by helping them grow, develop, and envision their futures through mentoring and participation in a team sport.

Coach Frank Galey

Frank Galey, grew up in San Jose California, the son of a Mexican American mother and father whose ancestors were Spanish and Italian. His father left the family’s home when he was 4, and his mother remarried. Both she and Galey’s stepfather were alcoholics; his mother died at age 50. Galey struggled in school and was frequently bullied. He discovered basketball to be a supportive escape from a challenging homelife. His grandmother Coco has played a critical role model and loving presence throughout his life. Since 2017, Galey has lived in Sacramento where he shares custody of his 17-year-old son, Elias Jordan Galey. Galey works in Sunnyvale for his job as Workplace Experience Ambassador at Google. He launched 1 Vision Academy in 2020.
